ONDA’s 2030 Vision

For the last couple months, our corporate team has been working to nail down our 2030 vision. As a small, early-stage startup team, we believe it’s imperative to clearly define where we’re heading, and make sure we’re all on the same page about what we’re working towards.

We’re grateful to have been led through this vision-setting process by Ian Gurfield, Wisconsin-based entrepreneur and Founder of Ian’s Pizza. Early in his entrepreneurial days, Ian realized the importance of setting a clear vision. For the last two decades, Ian has been implementing his visioning methodology at Ian’s Pizza, as well as mentoring entrepreneurs through the visioning process like he so generously did with our team.

I actually know Ian from working at one of his pizza restaurants while I was a student at the University of Wisconsin. If you’ve had the pleasure of dining at an Ian’s Pizza, you’ve probably noticed they do things a little bit differently, and that they’re onto something pretty kickass. Working there was a whole experience – we often referred to it as being part of a pizza cult, bound together by the blood, sweat and tears of slingin’ pizza to the late-night bar crowd.

I’ve always had respect for the operation Ian’s has built, and when I met Bill, a Madison-native, we quickly bonded over our mutual appreciation for this pizza empire – Bill as a long-time customer, me as a pizza slinger alumni. Although our businesses are quite different, we’ve been able to draw a lot of similarities and inspiration from Ian’s Pizza as we set up to grow our brand to multiple locations, as Ian’s so successfully has.

That all being said, the ONDA team was pretty stoked to be sitting down with Ian over the last few months to trek through this visioning exercise, and for the retired pizza slinger in me, it was a big full-circle moment.

If you take a peek at Ian’s Pizza’s 2030 vision, you’ll understand that when Ian talks about a vision, he’s not talking about that fluffy one-sentence statement you put on the About page of your website. The kind of vision he’s referring to is a detailed and inspiring description of what success looks like for your company at a specific time in the future. Ian’s philosophy is that:

“A vision, when it’s done well, becomes a powerful tool that can attract great employees and produce fantastic work. On a very basic level, a great vision tells everyone what future success looks like.”

After meeting regularly over the last couple months to discuss what success looks like for team ONDA in 2030, we’re excited to have our vision more clearly defined than ever. This vision is something that will continue to guide us over the coming years, acting as our north star and reminding us why we’re doing what we’re doing.

Without further ado, the ONDA team is proud and eager to share with you our 2030 vision:

It’s 2030 and we’ve made hostels sexy…
